In times of upheaval and unrest, the yearning for nostalgia and the comfort of the past can feel particularly tempting. That desire for the simplicity of times past continues to drive home design trends in our chaotic world of tariffs, geopolitical unrest and polarizing election cycles.
The forecasters at Future Snoops tapped into that sentiment, along with other contributing factors, to identify trends shaping home design for spring/summer 2027. Their overarching theme, Reworking Beauty, examines “a mindset rooted in what already exists, seen anew through care, curiosity and creative intent.”
“At its core, this is a shift in consumer values,” said Kristen Moonjian, director, home and lifestyle at Future Snoops. “The urgency to accumulate, to buy new, to buy more is giving way to something a lot more deliberate. Consumers are really slowing down and finding beauty in what already exists, in what is refined, renewed or rediscovered. So it’s not just about what we make — it’s about the story for materials to tell.”
Future Snoops breaks Reworking Beauty down into four trend narratives: Exhale, Swift, Combe and Revive. “Each shift has its own territory, material palette, construction language and pattern direction,” Moonjian said.
Exhale
Future Snoops’ Exhale trend narrative redefines coastal living with calm, intentional spaces that emphasize stillness, natural elegance and a lasting connection to the environment.
“This one is a deep breath, which is what we all really need at the moment,” Moonjian said. “This trend is a lot quieter, and it reimagines the traditional coastal aesthetic through a very minimalist lens.”
As the name suggests, Exhale represents spaces that offer a sense of calm and clarity, making the home feel like a retreat from the world. This trend narrative leans into the influence of nature, which is reflected in its colors and patterns.
“The color palette here is predominantly blue, which helps ground us in that ocean depth and coastal sensibility,” Moonjian said. “But the tone approach is very flexible — applications that are rendered in low-contrast tones so that the effect is soft and atmospheric.”
With Exhale, color guides pattern with abstract motifs that recall the ocean tides or the striations of stone.
“The colors feel as though they’re gathered and paused deliberately, and the pigment softly separates into these pools as though the tide has left its impressions in the sand,” Moonjian said. “There is a quiet structure to the color placement that really distinguishes it from a purely abstract wash.”
Swift
The Swift trend narrative evokes understated glamour with spaces that balance light, material and sensual sophistication. It’s inspired by the beauty and style of the Mediterranean coast.
“We are seeing a significant surge in travel to European destinations, and consumers are coming home changed,” Moonjian said. “They’re not just bringing back souvenirs — they’re bringing back this desire to embed the slowness, beauty and sensuality of the Mediterranean into their daily lives.”
Moonjian said this prioritization of experience and emotion brings an emphasis on craft, warm minimalism and sensual materiality to home design. One of the key material stories of Swift is a reinterpretation of classic woven techniques that bring a more playful, expressive spirit.
“We’re seeing updated herringbones, argyle, jacquard and checks as motifs, but the keyword here is updated,” Moonjian said. “So we’re looking at shifts in scale, unexpected colorways and new yarn blends.”
Coastal motifs — a mainstay in the casual category — play a major role in Swift, but they’re used in ways that are more sophisticated than kitschy.
“The elevation comes with how these motifs are handled,” Moonjian said. “So we’re seeing things like symmetrical placement, which adds order and elegance.”
Another outdoor classic — stripes — gets a fresher take within this trend movement.
“We’re seeing rainbow variations, primary colors and tonal variations — the palette is deliberately broad and really allows each brand to calibrate the mood from playful retro to the full beach cabana energy,” Moonjian said.
Another beachy pattern, palm trees and fronds, also play prominently in the Swift trend narrative.
“Tropical prints are back, but this time they’re a little more grown up,” Moonjian said. “Singular palms take the maximalist energy of tropical motifs and apply them in a much more spatially considered, refined lens. It’s cleaner, calmer and more intentional.”
Color-wise, Swift encompasses a range of rich, saturated hues from Enduring Red and Polarized Purple to Pickled Green, Solitude Blue and Truffle Leather.
Combe
The Combe trend reimagines rustic living with spaces that feel lived-in, crafted and rooted in time. This shift is a rebellion against the digitally focused world, where identity can feel fragmented.
“There’s a powerful interest in rootedness in geography, architecture, ancestry — the home really becomes this symbol of authenticity and permanence,” Moonjian said.
Patterns that capture Combe include a variety of takes on florals, from faded petals and dreamy watercolor flowers to hand-drawn illustration-style prints and even more photographic florals with a soft focus. A more traditional take on floral motifs also has a place within this trend.
“They’re reminiscent of those wallpapers found in your grandmother’s home,” Moonjian said. “They’re soft, romantic and very familiar, which is what consumers are craving these days.”
Along with florals, Combe brings a soft, muted palette that reflects the nostalgia and grounding of the trend.
“We’re seeing a lot of pale yellows paired with sage greens, as well as fresh takes on neutrals, which are really strong color combinations for this trend,” Moonjian said.
Revive
The Revive trend story celebrates the beauty of the worn, handmade and enduring — it’s a more mature, refined take on the boho aesthetic.
“Consumers are looking for objects with lineage and pieces that carry stories, whether it’s passed down or discovered over time,” Moonjian said.
Texture reigns in this trend narrative, with plush fabrics and details such as fringe. Patterns include bold, ikat-inspired motifs, stripes with raw edges that feel handwoven, and updated paisleys and mosaic repeats. These patterns lend a global feel that taps into the desire to fill the home with treasures brought home from travels.
Revive’s color palette reflects that global influence with earthy, rich tones such as Jamberry, Burnished Copper, Plump Papaya and Noir.
