Danish design brand Fritz Hansen will unveil its first outdoor collection — Tradition, a modular collection and a paragon of luxury outdoor design — on March 5.
The collection is the first in-house-designed outdoor collection since the brand’s acquisition of Skagerak in 2023, bringing Fritz Hansen’s enduring and versatile design approach to the outdoors. Every piece in the highly exclusive collection is handcrafted from FSC-certified teak heartwood that is shaped and joined by hand to preserve the natural beauty of the wood and to achieve the design’s signature seamless curves.

“Tradition’s meticulous dedication to craft and detail is the result of a collaboration between Fritz Hansen’s design team and Povl B. Eskildsen,” notes Marie-Louise Høstbo, creative design director at Fritz Hansen.
The series comprises a lounge chair, corner/end and spacer modules, a pouf and two tables that allow for nearly unlimited combinations. While simple in their expression, each piece requires skilled artisans to shape: from the back and armrests formed with seamless finger joints for a fluid look to carefully concealed dado joints on teak end grain that provide additional durability and stability.

“Tradition elaborates on traditional spindle furniture designs, drawing clear references to midcentury renditions of chairs. It looks to the Danish design tradition, fulfilling a function while looking visually appealing. At the same time, it draws on the way we seek to create personal spaces in furniture design, for rest and relaxation,” notes Eskildsen on the line.
Høstbo adds: “The Tradition modules work perfectly in a private garden or terrace, as well as in larger configurations for outdoor spaces at hotels and restaurants. With Tradition, Fritz Hansen connects the interior design experience with the outdoors, underpinned by distinctive and well-crafted designs by visionary designers.”
