For the past five years, Pelican Reef has displayed its various brands — Skyline Design, Pelican Reef and Panama Jack Outdoor Living — in a spacious standalone building behind the Centers of High Point building for High Point Market.
But this coming market, it is moving to a more central location in the Hamilton wing of IHFC to attract more walk-by traffic.
“Unfortunately the outdoor buyer was not making it out to the destination location,” says Allen Calzadilla, CEO of Pelican Reef. “My dad taught me a long time ago that it’s all about location, and now we have a prime space in IHFC. It works well for all of our brands as well because you’re able to visit Skyline on the first floor of InterHall and then you can ride the escalators right up to our showroom on the sixth floor, and it’s right there at the top of the escalator.”
This past October, the company soft-opened the new showroom while keeping its other showrooms open as well, and there were surprising results.
“We weren’t expecting anybody in October because our new showroom wasn’t in the directory or advertised anywhere, so nobody knew to find us there,” Calzadilla says. We ended up getting close to 250 leads just from walk-by traffic. I mean, I anticipate having from 500 to 1,000 leads at the April show.”
The company will hold a grand-opening party and ceremony on Sunday, April 27, in IHFC H-621.

Calzadilla adds that one of the exciting products you can see in the showroom in April is the company’s pergola with a table and hanging dining chairs. The “wow” piece has been updated since its inception two years ago.
In addition to being able to hold a total of 3,500 lbs in weight — each seat can hold up to 420 lbs — any of Skyline’s six chair options can now be paired with the pergola. It also can be offered without the chairs and table.
The original model measures 11 feet tall, but the company has now come out with an 8-foot option that’s easier to ship.
