Moe’s Home Collection gets serious about outdoor

At the recent High Point Market, Moe’s Home Collection debuted its latest outdoor collections, which is unlike any other outdoor the manufacturer has produced thus far.

While Moe’s has always dipped its toes in the outdoor category, mostly with concrete furniture, the new collection includes elegant teak and woven pieces that Product Development Manager Maura Dineen says caught buyers’ attention at market.

“We’re just starting to really build into outdoor, and I think it’ll only get stronger over the next year as we work in more lounges and dining as well,” Dineen told Casual News Now. “A lot of buyers were kind of surprised to see that we had outdoor and they were quite surprised to see our introductions.

Dineen said Moe’s likes to do things a little bit differently and add personality and expression to its design, so they played with sculptural forms and are adding a bit more color in outdoor.

“We definitely see our clients asking for more color in outdoor pieces,” Dineen said. “There are not a lot of expressive pieces in the outdoor industry, so we’re bringing a lot of colors — think terra cottas, blues, creams and even greens as well.”

The Tempo collection is made from teak, and Dineen said it has a very simple and straightforward silhouette. There is a bit of curved detail on the leg that gives it a unique personality.

“We’ve gotten a really good response to that,” Dineen said. “It’s all about mixing materials. So you have the teak, the woven fiber, and then the fabric is also in that mixture and it makes it super comfortable. We’ve started with simple silhouettes and then we’ll likely get more playful as time goes on.”

While many of Moe’s clients are designers, Dineen says the company also works with independent retailers, stagers and big-box retailers, and thinks it’s important to have a diverse customer base.

“Our customer reach is quite diverse, and we see that trend continuing to diversify over time, which is really good,” she said. “When you’re speaking to so many different people and you’re hearing so many things, you get a good idea of what people want.”

The company plans to sprinkle new outdoor introductions in with its indoor introductions at upcoming markets, and Dineen says they are developing new dining that she hopes will launch in the spring of 2023.
