Balè Homewares has introduced an assortment of design-forward outdoor designs. The pieces, which include a variety of seating, tables and more, are handmade in Indonesia using responsibly sourced teak, rattan and leather.
“Our outdoor collections are curated around the belief that mindful, outdoor furniture represents a holistic design approach that considers the entire lifecycle of an object,” said Lita and Matt Bondlow, cofounders, Balè Homewares. “The materials that make up a chair or table carry invisible stories of ecosystems and ancient traditions. Choosing the right materials is the first step toward a more restorative outdoor environment.”
Among the intros, the Shambala indoor/outdoor chaise lounge is made of nontoxic, recycled materials with an ergonomic design, and the Ayana teak sun lounger is crafted of teak and an eco-friendly synthetic material with sleek, clean lines. The Ananda lounger combines teak and woven outdoor leather, while the Talia lounge chair features a teak-and-rope design.
Other teak lounge options include the Sunday lounger made of high-grade teak, and indoor/outdoor loungers the Niluh, Marin and Rhea.
“Teak is the cornerstone of sustainable outdoor design,” Lita and Matt said. “We partner with Balinese craftspeople who have worked with this wood for generations, supporting both environmental and cultural sustainability.”
Lita and Matt said that working with Indonesian artisans allows Balè to create furnishings that not only have a distinctive design, but also a story that resonates with consumers.
“One of the most overlooked aspects of mindful furniture is the human element behind the creation. Mindful furniture is crafted in small batches, involving artisan expertise rather than automated shortcuts,” they said. “There is a profound sensory difference between mindful design and mass market alternatives.”
