Designer Shayla Copas has made the move into the outdoor arena. Fresh off launching her indoor furnishings and accessories collection for Chelsea House, Copas has announced the launch of an outdoor fabric line in partnership with Polywood and Revolution Outdoor Fabrics. The line will debut this fall, but we recently caught up with Copas to get the scoop on her inspiration and how she sees this line figuring into outdoor rooms.
Why did you want to create something for the outdoor room?
In 2020, a lot of people began dwell in their homes more than they ever had before. As COVID-19 restrictions have gradually been lifted throughout 2021, outdoor living is becoming a hot trend! As a person who loves to soak in the energy of my environment, I am a huge fan of this movement. My vision for the POLYWOOD + Revolution outdoor fabric line was to offer a collection that brings the characteristics of indoor fabrics to outdoor spaces. My hope was that it would make people say ‘Wow! That’s an outdoor fabric?’ When we showcased the collection, I was elated to witness that intended reaction repeatedly.

Why are Polywood and Revolution the right partners for this collaboration?
The launch of this collection has been a gratifying experience and I could not think of better partners to have produced it with. POLYWOOD is a leader in outdoor design and sustainability. Revolution’s performance fabrics are produced at an unparalleled standard. The quality of the line is indicative of those qualities.
What inspired the designs in your collection?
With this collection, I sought to develop designs that are classic with a fresh twist. I also incorporated my passion for nature, color and entertaining into the concepts for the line. This core of inspiration truly shines through the unexpected patterns and colors, such as the coral safari print.

How do you see these fabrics being incorporated in not only outdoor rooms, but indoor spaces, as well?
My job as a designer is to help my clients create spaces that make them feel complete. Aesthetic is a significant consideration, but comfort and functionality are paramount. For that reason, I love to utilize outdoor and performance fabrics in the interior of the home. The expectation that my collection should be sufficient for both indoor and outdoor use played a huge role in the development of the fabrics. The possibilities are endless!
