Dedon has introduced a new modular lounging collection, called MDear, which was designed by Sebastian Herkner. MDear features five organic-shaped pieces that can stand alone or join together for larger seating arrangements.
Drawing its name from the word “endear,” MDear continues an ongoing collaboration between Herkner and Dedon that includes two previous collections, MBrace and MBarq.
“MDear is my idea of organic islands for the outdoors which can be combined into various shapes due to their modularity,” Herkner said.
MDear features six modular pieces — left module, right module, left corner module, right corner module, footstool and coffee table — with a softly curved design that mimics more natural, organic shapes. The pieces have a tight, structured weave on the seats with a more open weave on the backrest in a Pepper Bold Touch colorway.
“I had the spontaneous imagination to blow up the iconic MBrace weave I developed years ago to create a very contemporary look,” Herkner said.
The MDear collection also features plush cushions in a complementary neutral shade. Herkner said the completed look is designed to fit into the outdoors rather than detracting from the beauty of nature.
“The collection doesn’t formally set itself apart, but rather enters into a dialogue with nature — the curve of leaves, the softness of dunes, the sway of leaves,” he said.
